Holocaust Memorial Day & Week
Past Holocaust Memorial Day Events in Waltham Forest
29th January 2009
Last year Holocaust Memorial Day was marked in Waltham Forest with an event in the Walthamstow Assembly Hall during the day bringing together different schools and an all age evening event and service in memory of the Holocuast. Both the day time and the evening eveing included a talk from a Holocaust survivor which was very well recieved. The theam of "Hope not hatred" was a central focus point to all the work.
Overall the event was well recieved.
In previous years the day has been marked with a smaller service in the council chambers and a memorial service around the Ann Frank tree which is an important symbol and focus point for the day.
Planning This Years Holocaust Memorial Week- 29th January 2009
Building on the sucess of 2009's event a working group is meeting to plan a week of events for 2010. This is an opportunity to encourage the schools to explore Holocaust Memorial Day in more detail focussing not just on the natzi initiated Holocaust but also on other acts of genocide and the implications on all survivors.
